Cryptocurrency market capitalization exceeded $ 1 trillion for the first time in history

On the night of January 7, Bitcoin reached a new record, and after it the rates of most altcoins also rose. Against this background, the capitalization of the cryptocurrency market for the first time in history exceeded $ 1 trillion.

According to CoinMarketCap , the cryptocurrency market capitalization was $ 1 trillion 15 billion. The lion’s share of this indicator remains with bitcoin – $ 696 billion. Ether is in second place – $ 138 billion. Tether, XRP and Litecoin have shares of $ 22 billion, $ 13 billion and $ 11 billion, respectively. 

The dominance of BTC in the market is 68.5%. At the time of publication, bitcoin is trading at $ 37,000, while the maximum was reached at around $ 37,700. The ETH rate is $ 1,210. The all-time high of ETH was recorded in January 2018, when the coin was trading at $ 1,400.

Recall that in January 2018, when the rate of the first cryptocurrency reached $ 20,000, the capitalization of the cryptocurrency market reached $ 800 billion. Earlier, the former Merrill Lynch economist David Rosenberg said that the next phase of “blowing a bubble” in Bitcoin is underway.
